Depression

Depression is a rather frequent disease, caused by chemical disorders in the brain that may be inherited or caused by stress. As a matter of fact, a decrease of substances such as serotonin, dopamine and catecholamine, which have an euphoriant and anti-depressive action, occurs, therefore, the subject with an important decrease of said substances tend to have depression.

There are different types of depression. There may be one or more very specific causes that lead to depression as well as there may be no external causes that trigger it.

Reactive depression defines the depressive states linked to dramatic situations of the subject's life (mourning, failure, separation, accident, etc.).

Bipolar depression is characterized by alternated states of manic euphoria and severe depression. The affected subjects want to alienate themselves from the environment and shut themselves away.

The main symptoms consist in sadness, pessimism, apathy, low self-esteem and guilt, low desire to meet other people and socialize, weakness and difficulty concentrating.

Generally, the depressed subject is advised to react with willpower, but this is often not enough as sometimes depression is an insidious and serious disease that requires an attentive support therapy. When suffering from depression all seems black, negative, aimless, painful, futureless, desperate and the subject lose self-confidence.
