Benign prostatic hypertrophy

The prostate is an exclusively male gland located just below the bladder. Prostatic hypertrophy is one of the most frequent benign diseases in males over 60 years old. It consists in an increase in the volume of the organ due to causes not yet totally defined.

The increase of the volume of the prostate shrinks the urethral duct: this phenomenon obstructs the urine from coming out, with difficulty of the patient to urinate and with a weak urinary flow. Furthermore, it may often cause urine stagnation in the bladder, with consequent inflammations and infections, and with a feeling of incomplete emptying of the bladder.

It is a problem destined to grow with the increase of the ageing of the population. Some factors, such as stress, hormonal factors, constipation, psychological problems and sedentary life may increase the symptomatology.

Hypertrophy should always be monitored, to ascertain the absence of tumoral growths. The diagnosis is essentially based on the rectal exploration, various blood tests and instrumental tests.

Healthy practices :

Reduce rectal venous congestion by avoiding sedentary life is an important healthy practice.  Maintain a certain regularity in the passing of the stools to avoid further pelvic irritations.

Useful plants :
